Don't Gamble with Our Homes |
||
We are ordinary residents of the Unwin and Friary Estate in London SE15 who don't want a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) to run our estate. We want to remain with honest, transparent and accountable Southwark Council management. | ||
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Documents
This Act was made law in the year 2000 by the Labour government. It allows people to find out what public organisations are doing with the resources paid for by our taxes. This is an excellent law which has helped the NoTMO campaign find out a great deal about what is actually going on behind the scenes. Your Right to Know, by Heather Brooke is the definitive guide to making FOIA requests
FOIA requests are not supposed to cost anything and take (theoretically) 20 working days to be fulfilled, and if they are denied you can appeal to the Information Commissioner to have the information you want. FOIA Documents about TMOs:1. The "Financial Irregularities" document This is about the mysterious disappearance of £18,788 from the TMO when their trainer legged it abroad with money from the Unwin and Friary TMO and at least one other TMO in development. The Tabard Gardens Investigation Tabard Gardens was a TMO in Southwark which managed 1448 properties and collapsed in 2005 as the Council took the estate back. This is the investigation into the failures of Tabard Gardens. It makes instructive reading. Click here to download Tabard Gardens Investigation Right click to "save as"to your hard drive. It details how a formal investigation was launched because a Tabard Gardens staff member bravely became a whistleblower and revealed financial irregularities. It also shows how the TMC (a type of TMO) ignored council instructions and the results of council arbitration procedures. Clearly another Rogue TMO. It also shows how complicated and difficult it is for a Council to unravel the affairs of a failed TMO and bring it back into council management. The lesson for this is - don't have a TMO in the first place. Further FOIA Documents: More to Come! Watch this space!
